AppControl Software Privacy

The AppControl software was intentionally designed to be a privacy-friendly tool that gathers little to no data from your PC. We never collect any personally identifiable information.

Optional Suspicious App Detection Feature

If you choose to turn on the optional suspicious app detection feature (off by default), AppControl checks launched executables against a malware database. This feature does not collect personally identifiable information. We only send the executable file name, hash, and publisher details to our servers for AI analysis. Based on this limited data, we may also generate an AI description or “insight” about what the app is and what it appears to do. At times a third party service may help generate this description, and we do not share personal or identifying data with them. AppControl does not collect file contents, network activity, personal data, or any identifiable information. An executable is simply a program file that runs on your PC, not a document, photo, email, or any kind of personal file.

To turn off AppControl suspicious app detection go to the alerts tab, then drag “new suspicious app” to “no notifications”. If you do turn on AppControl’s suspicious app detection you will be asked to give consent to collect executable file names, hashes, and publisher details.

Optional Software Privacy Mode

For those people who are extremely privacy conscious, AppControl also has an optional privacy mode that can be activated on installation.

To activate the AppControl privacy mode, you should install AppControl from the Windows Terminal with the command AppControlSetup.exe /privacy. Once AppControl is installed in this privacy mode you will have no access to our Suspicious App Detection, Insights, or any other AppControl features that require anonymized executable data to operate.

Please note that if you choose the optional AppControl software privacy mode, the AppControl software will no longer communicate with our servers, and you are solely responsible for checking the AppControl website yourself manually for any critical software updates.

AppControl Website Forum Privacy

We do have an optional AppControl forum, and we collect only the data strictly necessary for our Forum operation, specifically Account Data (username, email, etc.), User Content (posts), and Technical Data for anti-spam, security, and maintenance. This information is used solely to deliver and secure the service you requested.

We do not sell your AppControl Website Forum personal data, and we do not share it with any third parties for advertising or other purposes, except as strictly required by law (e.g., valid court order, subpoena). You can manage or delete your forum information directly in your forum account settings, and you may contact us with formal data requests with the subject “formal AppControl forum data request”. You may not join or use our forum if you are under the age of 18.
